Once the Stork Spots for Expectant Mothers Act becomes law, every pregnant woman in the United States gains clear, enforceable federal rights at any store, hospital, government building, or public facility with 20 or more parking spaces. You have the right to use a designated Stork Spot simply by being pregnant — at any stage of pregnancy, whether or not you are visibly showing, without explaining yourself to anyone. The only credential this law will ever ask for is your own word. No placard, no doctor's note, no proof of any kind. Your statement that you are pregnant is, by federal law, the beginning and end of the inquiry — and any business that demands more than that is not asking a reasonable question. It is breaking the law, and it is subject to a fine of up to $5,000 per incident for doing so.
If a covered facility has no Stork Spots, has spaces that don't meet the required standards, or denies you access — you have the right to file a free, confidential complaint. You also have the right to take the business directly to federal court without waiting for a government investigation — and if you win, the business pays your attorney's fees. If a Stork Spot is occupied by an unauthorized vehicle, the business has an obligation to take reasonable steps to clear it and offer you an alternative in the meantime. And if any business retaliates against you — for using a space, asking about one, or filing a complaint — that retaliation is itself a federal violation carrying a $5,000 penalty with no opportunity to cure.
